NOVEMBER 22, 2004 VOLUME 1, NUMBER 1 Ben Gurion Airport Terminal 3 Takes Off On the morning of Tuesday, 2nd November 2004, the first flight took off from the new Terminal 3 at Ben Gurion International Airport . Baggage on that inaugural flight was transported by a state - of - the - art baggage handling system, through conveying systems developed and installed by SpaceLogic and its partner, FKI Logistex (Crisplant a/s), controlled by SpaceLogic’s proprietary software BHLogic .    Among key factors behind the promised efficiency of the new Ben Gurion terminal is a leading edge Baggage Handling System -- ensuring rapid and reliable baggage handling 24 hours a day, 365 days a year .   Passengers and their baggage are separated at Check - In where bags are tagged with a 10 - digit IATA bar code . At Terminal 3, bags are conveyed by 4 intricate lines of spiral conveyors down 4 floors (approximately 25m) within the building to the basement, where they enter a presorting area consisting of 2 double - tiered tilt tray sorters .   This presorting area is designed as an infrastructure for a future Hold Baggage Screening system (HBS) . Bags are then conveyed some 500m to final sortation, adjacent to the aircraft parking positions, where 2 additional sorters sort to some 80 destination chutes Fully automated, the system was designed to be flexible, simple to operate and easy to maintain . The baggage handling system uses tracking and automatic barcode scanning technologies, and incorporates the latest transport conveyor system designs .   Within this project, SpaceLogic has also provided the infrastructure for the Hold Baggage Screening (HBS) system . Ben Gurion Airport is renowned for its superior security requirements and the SpaceLogic security screening systems meet these demands, as they are the most advanced of their kind .    Our first e - zine allows me the opportunity to mention the exciting events that we have been involved in over the past few months .      First and foremost, the opening of the new Ben Gurion Airport Terminal 3 in Tel Aviv took place this month . I’d also like to introduce our new BIRD partner, ARINC, as well as to introduce you all to the newest members of our team, Avi Elyakim and David Schwartz . As always, we have enjoyed close working relationships and this year has been no different .      Wishing you all Happy Hanukkah, Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year .
